Four of the Most Common Rain Gutter Problems

To keep your roof and the rest of your home in the best shape possible, you have got to take good care of your gutters. Just like your body cannot take care of you when it is not operating at peak efficiency, the same applies to your gutters. Learn some of the most common rain gutter problems to prepare for them before they strike.

  1. Clogged Gutters

Ice dams, mold, vegetation growth and neglecting to take good care of your gutters are all reasons that your gutters might become clogged. It is best that you have your gutters cleaned out by an experienced professional at least twice a year. You also might want to think about having a gutter protection system installed, to make the job easier.

  1. Missing and Loose Gutters

The wind, weight from leaves and debris, and rain are three of the most common reasons for having loose or missing gutters. When there are gaps in your gutter system, it can result in damage to the siding of your home and the roof. There is also a chance your landscape can suffer as well, as the result of missing or loose gutters.

  1. Wear and Tear

Cracks, mildew, rust and other types of regular wear and tear are common gutter problems. If you have had your gutters for a while and start to notice these problems, you might be better off having new gutters installed by an expert, rather than trying to repair the ones you currently have.

  1. Leaking Gutters

Any cracks you have in your gutters can easily lead to leaks. You can either attempt to take care of the leaks on your own or have a professional do it for you. If you choose to do it yourself, it is best that you use a waterproof or gutter sealer to get the job done. Just make sure the gutters have been well-sanded and that they are dry before you get started. If your gutters have large holes, you may have to replace those sections.

By taking good care of your gutters, you help extend their life expectancy and improve the protection of your roof and home. For more tips, be sure to get in touch with a local gutter company.
