What Causes Roof Leaks?

If water is leaking from your roof, it might be tempting to just put some pots and pans on the floor until the rainy season is over. However, delaying repairs can end up having some pretty disastrous consequences in the long run. You should get the necessary repairs as quickly as you can, but the first step in fixing the problem is determining the cause. There are various reasons why your roof might be leaking, and an experienced roofer will examine the roof in its entirety to decide on the best fix.

Broken Shingles

As time goes on, the shingles on your roof will begin to wear down because they are constantly exposed to harsh weather patterns. You should be able to determine whether or not this is the culprit by looking at your roof yourself and seeing if there are severely damaged of missing shingles. A roofer will need to examine the extent of the damage to suggest the best solution, so you will be protected the next time a big storm comes around.

Improperly Sealed Valleys

The valley of the roof is the part where two planes meet. They are generally sloped and are prone to collecting rain water that flows down into the gutters. It is possible that your valleys were not properly sealed the last time they were worked on, or they may have gradually worn down over time from the weather.

Clogged Gutters

The source of a leak may be traced back to your gutters getting clogged up. If your gutters are not cleaned regularly, then water will back up and pool onto the roof. This amount of water can collect and eventually cause moisture to leak into the inside.

Leaks are a big concern for homeowners because not only is your roof damaged, but the inside of your home is at risk as well. Get the roof leak repair you need, so you can continue enjoying a good quality of life.
