Oak Park, California is one of the oldest cities in Ventura County. This Southern California destination has long been welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. For those who love the outdoors, Oak Park can be a wonderful place to reside – especially thanks to the many parks, trails, and other recreational hotspots found throughout the city. In fact, you surely don’t want to miss Palo Camado Canyon, Canyon Cove Trail, China Flat, Chaparral Park, and Eagle View Park.
You are, however, going to want to take advantage of all the great outdoor activities before the Santa Ana winds start.
THE PROBLEM WITH SANTA ANA WINDS
The Santa Ana winds sweep in through Southern California in late fall and early winter. These are often very dry offshore winds that can reach up to hurricane strength at times – and have been known to fan some of the infamous California wildfires. The Santa Ana winds usually bring some of the hottest temperatures of the year.
Now, while you may be thinking that the Santa Ana winds are nothing more than blowing warm air, it is important to fully understand what you are dealing with. These winds, ranging from 28mph upwards of 115mph or so, come in and they exert sustained force and pressure over extended periods of time. Structures that take the brunt of these winds may actually be jeopardized.
What is the most vulnerable part of your home when it comes to the Santa Ana winds? Your roof.
OAK PARK ROOFING LEAK REPAIR
When roofing Oak Park, this project consisted of a tiled roof that had a severe leak located next to the chimney. There was a downspout attached next to the chimney wall that would overflow with water when it rained. The chimney flashings were installed incorrectly, making the overflow of water seep beneath the underlayment. Deterioration on the chimney included plywood damage, beam damage, and fascia damage. We replaced all of the rotten wood, added double layers of forty pound underlayment, and correctly re-installed the original tiles.
Damaged plywood on the right side of the chimney.
Damaged beam located directly next to the chimney.
Deteriorated fascia board around the edges of roof.
Installing brand new plywood.
Installing new beams and fascia.
TILE ROOFING IN OAK PARK
When roofing Oak Park residences for this project, the home’s tiled roof had quite a few leaks. These were all caused by tiles that were missing and clogged drainage from fallen tree leaves and debris. After finding damaged plywood and fascia board at the front edge of the roof, we decided to replace all the damaged wood. We added double layers of forty pound underlayment and re-installed the original tiles. We finished by adding tile pans at the front edge of the roof to improve drainage and prevent clogging.
The clogged valley that caused the leak in the first place need to be cleaned.
Missing tiles also caused the leak and need to be repaired to avoid new leaks.
Severe plywood, fascia, and rafter damage from the roof leak.
