Southern California’s Moorpark is one of the fastest growing cities in Ventura County. Thanks to the wonderful subtropical climate with just enough precipitation to keep it out of the drought scale, this city is enticing more and more people. Perhaps it is due to its proximity to Los Angeles. Or, maybe it is because of its high number of parks, the ability to mix a little city with a little country, or maybe it is thanks to Moorpark College. Whatever the reason, Moorpark has struck a chord with many who are looking for a nice place in nice surroundings to call home.
And, while it may seem trouble-free due to the great weather that you find here, don’t be fooled. Of course, you don’t have to worry about an exuberant amount of rainy days or any snowfall that may barricade you in your home. But, what you do have to worry about is the sun.
Yes, the sun.
HOW THE CALIFORNIA SUN AFFECTS YOUR ROOF
Not only does the sun cause damage to bare skin and even accelerate your melting ice cream cone, but it can also damage the roof of your home. Believe it or not, your home’s roof is vulnerable to the heat, energy, and UV rays that are delivered by the sun. As the sun heats up the atmosphere, your roof is a prime target. And, generally, it will begin to feel the daily sizzle of the heat and hold on to it.
Then, guess what happens? The tiles on your roof begin to dry out and lose the protective oils they were made with. Without the oils, the tiles will begin to slowly lose their flexibility and will eventually crumble. This leaves your roof in a very vulnerable state.
It doesn’t matter how new your roof is, it is never too early to start monitoring it so that you may prevent major roof issues in the future. Save yourself time and headaches by being proactive. Here is what you can do at home:
TILE ROOF LEAK AND WOOD REPAIR IN MOORPARK
For this particular project when we were roofing Moorpark, there were several roofing leaks occurred at the edge of this roof. Since water flows downstream, thanks to gravity, the lower parts of the roof are more likely to be exposed to water penetration. We observed two other factors in this home that often contribute to a roof edge leak. One factor was clogged gutters and water which caused overflowing to the roof edge. The second factor was the missing or corroded drip edge flashings. Both of which were causing severe water damage at the edge of the front roof section in this Moorpark home.

During this job when roofing Moorpark, we also discovered a leak near the chimney due to improperly installed flashings.

ROOF REPLACEMENT IN MOORPARK
After a thorough roof inspection, we found the tile roof in this beautiful Moorpark home turned out to be a disaster. The original roof had only 30lb underlayment, the standard being double layers of 40lb underlayment. The underlayment has deteriorated and we found several leaks throughout. The roof wood deck was full of water damage, rot, and even mold. We replaced a large amount of plywood, shiplap, and fascia boards.
Pictured here is the severe wood decay and mold found during this project when roofing Moorpark residences.
New plywood was installed.
New underlayment was installed.
The brand new fascia boards add curb appeal.
